The Priest

I both enjoyed and was disappointed by this movie. Perhaps it's the epic fail of the Catholic church which has me so irritated. Here's a man who wants to dedicate his life to the Church as a Priest, but that means giving up on love and sex, marriage etc, all things he knew going in. But I think it's unrealistic to ask a person to give up their physical needs for the whole of their life. I think the Catholic church would benefit by letting ALL of their Priests and Nuns marry should they choose to do so. I'm sure many won't, but I think there is a large number that would.

The LDS (Mormon) Church has the same issue when it comes to same sex marriage. They losing large groups of people because of their stand on homosexual relationships. Not to mention all the fake marriages it inspires because the husband is expect to marry and have a family and raise them in the church. Meanwhile, he's got a boyfriend on the side that nobody knows about.

I digress. A lot. Back to the movie. Once he was caught out as having a gay lover, the majority of the church and community turned their backs on him. And while his lover tried to support him, he pretty much got a fuck off for trying. And the Priest returned to a congregation that didn't want anything to do with him and gave up his lover and any chance at love in exchange for blatant hostility week after week.

I wanted him to choose the boy so badly, and he chose God instead. WHY?!?!?! I kept waiting for him to get sick of the hostility and choose love, and he didn't. PORQUE?!?!

3.5/5 stars. The story was interesting, I just hated the ending, which affects starage!
